Ikea bedtime stories
Ikea makes the point that their beds are so comfortable that you'll fall asleep extra quickly. Hence the need for a tiny book of short versions of bedtime stories. The little book is really nicely produced.

Image Fulgurator
"In a normal camera, the light reflected from an object is projected via the lens onto the film. In the Image Fulgurator, this process is exactly the opposite: instead of an unexposed film, an exposed and developed roll of slide film is loaded into the camera and behind it, a flash. When the flash goes off, the image is projected from the film via the lens onto the object."
Artist Julius von Bismarck pushes the boundaries of what you can do with a camera...

Photoshop disasters
It's always in the back of your mind as an artworker that one day you'll forget to turn a layer on/off and submit what you think is a finished image with a glaring mistake. Somehow it seems that a lot of images get through to press without being checked out.
Photoshop disasters collects these images for all to see and some are truly disastrous...such as the one pictured which is on the front page of the
Givenchy site!

Cai Guo-Qiang
On a recent trip to New York I took in the big galleries and saw some incredible artwork. The artist that stuck with me most this time round was Cai Guo-Qiang who has been given the run of the Guggenheim on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
His talent stretches through sculpture, installations and paintings and it's difficult to describe in words how amazing his work is.

New Nike ad unoriginal
A few nights ago before the Barcelona vs Man Utd Champions league semi-final Nike aired their much-anticipated, Guy Ritchie directed advert.
Shot entirely in the first person it's very slick but I couldn't help see the striking likeness to The Prodigy's "Smack my bitch up" music video of about ten years ago.

Gum by numbers
To tackle the problem of people dropping gum on the streets of Australia, Hubba Bubba created "gum by numbers" versions of famous paintings.
Gum chewers were then encouraged to place their gum in the correctly labelled part of the picture to create the overall painting.

WWF deforestation
I love the way the internationally known Panda logo of the WWF is used brilliantly here to illustrate the point that deforestation in China is threatening the lives of Pandas.
Such a simple modifiaction of the logo to show it squished under a fallen tree gets the point across so well.

Great annual report
A great
annual report from
Bruketa & Zinic
for Podravka, the biggest food company in south east Europe. The concept is that a small book comes inside the
larger report and has to be baked in foil before it can be read.
The pages are printed in thermo-reactive ink and when cooked te ink becomes visible and you have a book full of recipes and pictures.

We've had this in the office for a week or so now and have to say it's pretty impressive. Lots of new features and an all round smoother interface.
Better than that though, nothing stopped working when we switched over.

Apple use student ad
Apple were so impressed by the advert apple-fan Nick Haley created and posted on Youtube that they decided to buy the rights to it and use it themselves.
The advertisement was made "broadcast-ready" by Apple's advertising agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day, but remains remarkable faithful to the original version.
